Apprenticeship as an important piece of the mosaic

"Mosaic" - this was the motto of this year's apprenticeship graduation ceremony, at which 48 ETH Zurich apprentices celebrated passing their final exams. Fabienne Jaquet, Head of Vocational Training at ETH, welcomed those present in the auditorium of the main building. Lukas Vonesch, Head HR Consulting, was the first speaker to address the graduates: "A mosaic is a fascinating whole made up of small individual parts, in which all the pieces together make a work of art. " Transferred to the personal path of life, this means: Every experience, every professional station and every further education is a piece of the mosaic that contributes to the whole. The apprenticeship is a particularly valuable and important stone.

As diverse as a mosaic

At the end of his speech, Lukas Vonesch called on the young professionals to be courageous and to try out different things on their way. Because, as with a mosaic, it is the diversity in life that makes it.

The professions in which the 12 women and 36 men successfully completed their apprenticeships are also diverse. Among them are physics laboratory technicians, design engineers, interactive media designers and animal care specialist.

Central role of vocational trainers

The second speaker, Dr. Julia Dannath, Vice President for Personnel Development and Leadership, emphasised the important role that vocational trainers play for the learners. It is they who play a decisive role in shaping the apprenticeship period. Accompanied by a big round of applause, Dannath thanked the vocational trainers for their support of the young people in such an important phase of their lives.

At the end, Julia Dannath gave the graduates "Ten Commandments" that can positively influence their lives in small steps: From "being a role model for others" to "taking responsibility" and "living according to one's own values and standing up for them" to the advice to always remain a "learner of life", there were many suggestions among them, which probably all those present in the hall could agree with.

Culinary finale in front of a summery backdrop

After the "official" part of the celebration, the "culinary" part took place in the ¡°Dozentenfoyer¡±. Here, too, the motto of the aperitif and the subsequent dinner was "Mosaic" - thanks to the decoration and food of the Orient. A harmonious finale in perfect summer weather, and an evening that will long be remembered not only by the graduates, but also by everyone else present.
